PestWorld 2024: A Showcase of Innovation and Expertise

Insects Limited made a strong impression at PestWorld 2024, the world’s largest annual gathering of pest management professionals. Representing the company were Tom Mueller and Ethan Estabrook, who led an engaging exhibition showcasing Insects Limited's innovative products and solutions.
This year's PestWorld saw a significant increase in participation, drawing over 4,000 attendees and featuring 250 exhibitors from across the globe. The event primarily attracts owners and decision-makers from pest control companies who come to explore new products, learn from experts, and shape the future of the industry.

Educational Highlights and Cutting-Edge Innovations
PestWorld 2024 delivered a diverse range of educational programs, focusing on everything from urban rodent control to the latest advancements in pest management technologies. Key presentations included "Designing a Rat-Proofed City" by renowned expert Dr. Bobby Corrigan, "Best Practices for Structural Commodity Fumigations" led by Caroline Kohnert, ACE, PHE, and "Mapping the Multiverse of Remote Monitoring Data" by Dana Cote, Director of Operations. Attendees also gained insights into AI-driven pest management, innovative termite baits, and groundbreaking research in bed bug control.

A New Era in Pest Management: The Role of Remote Monitoring
A prominent theme throughout PestWorld was the growing role of remote monitoring devices in integrated pest management (IPM). These technologies are transforming pest control by enabling technicians to shift from routine trap checks to more analytical tasks, such as identifying the root causes of infestations. Remote monitoring allows for continuous surveillance in challenging locations—like drop ceilings, crawlspaces, and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS)—where pests often thrive unnoticed.

Networking and Collaboration: Pi Chi Omega's Presence
Pi Chi Omega, the fraternal organization dedicated to advancing pest control science, also played a vital role at PestWorld 2024. Their networking events fostered collaboration among entomologists, pest management professionals (PMPs), researchers, and students. The organization, which provides scholarships and promotes entomology to younger generations, continues to be a driving force in supporting technical excellence within the industry. Fumigation Industry Discussions
The Fumigation Committee meeting addressed several pressing issues facing the industry, including changes in chemical registration and regulatory challenges. Topics included the impact of the State-level Preemption and Farm Bill, the ongoing sulfuryl fluoride registration review, and new fumigation training standards. The availability of critical fumigants—currently limited to sulfuryl fluoride, phosphine, and methyl bromide (restricted to quarantine use)—was a key concern, with discussions centered on how potential shortages could affect food protection and commodity preservation.
